Problem Titles
-
Jan 13, 2010 My ever growing list of problem titles
Note: These titles are "problematic" in that they are bibliographically complex and therefore disorganized in the way they appear in the portal. There are often duplicates and a series of preceding and succeeding titles, that make them confusing to users and difficult in terms of knowing what has been scanned and what hasn't to decipher gap-fills. Because the MARC records vary for these titles by institution, in some cases, succeeding and preceding titles are lumped together under one MARC record while others are split. Volume information is also confusing either because enumeration & chronology are not provided or are incorrectly provided. I have received questions/requests for gap-fills regarding these titles either by email or through Gemini.
Curtis' publications
Do not confuse:
Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London
NOT TO BE CONFUSED w/ the Transactions of the Zoological Society of London
http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/bibliography/1594 The volumes for this title were originally divided up between 2 titles/records. The additional record was actually incorrectly associated with the Proceedings. See Gemini issue
http://www.mobot.org/Gemini/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?p=0&id=1698 for more information. Many gaps in this very important work need to be filled.
Transactions of the Zoological Society of London

Transactions of the Linnean Society
4 hits associated with this title

Annals & magazine of Natural History
I've looked at this one so much I remember the titleID off-the-bat
http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/bibliography/15774. There were originally 4 different titles that needed to be merged (in fact, all 4 titles are available via a title BROWSE but not a SEARCH)
Bronn's Thier-Reich
This title is impossible for me to understand. I cannot tell what volumes are outstanding. 4 of these titles under CreatorID 1617 for Bronn, H. G. expressly state "Thier-Reichs"
http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/creator/1617
Bulletin of the British Museum
Can't remember the exact issue surrounding this series

Annales des sciences naturelles

Siboga Expeditie
34 hits for "Siboga"
http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/Search.aspx?searchTerm=siboga&searchCat=. There is 1 serial record and 33 monographic records for this title that has over 66 volumes published (not all in the public domain). I requested that Mike L. associate all the monographic records with the Title ID for the serial record via the series statement. In order to do this Mike simply needed a common denominator for the records to associate them all, i.e. "Siboga", but I originally recorded the 33 titleIDs for the monographs just to be sure.

Fieldiana
We had a conference call to deal with this one! Fieldiana serial records need to be uploaded and associated with the many, many monographs floating around in the portal. Currently, in order to find a title within the various Fieldiana series you need to know the monographic title. A search for Fieldiana pulls up 2 hits, one of which is from an ingest title!
