Requested Enhancements for BHL Portal

• Open Source ils fr ont end (LibLime, other) on top of BHL
• Include common name search for Bibliographies
• Separation of Serial/Journals from Monographs. Using the MARC leader we could potentially do a quick separation of those. Example: http://bibdigital.rjb.csic.es/ing/index.php where a clear separate link exists on the opening page for periodicals
• Volume breakdowns include the dates of the volumes. Examples: see http://bibdigital.rjb.csic.es/ing/Obras.php?Libro=0 and http://bibdigital.rjb.csic.es/ing/Volumenes.php?Libro=1110
• Paging indexing: using thumbnails to give the quick look to see the title page and the table of contents... text vs image. Examples:

• Default when opening a title is to the Title page instead of the cover. Potential to navigate back up the chain to the preliminary pages and covers but the initial landing is the title page. Example: http://fax.libs.uga.edu/QK1xC981/cbmmenu.html
• On a name bibliography, be able to get synonymy from uBio and provide links to those bibliographies.
• Searching across more MARC fields. Current title search is only 245. Add additional titles and series searching. Or qualifications to search (narrowing).
• Adding "people" name searching capabilities - either i.d. from metadata or OCR text from identified title pages (bound with - ocr new title without separate metadata)
• Delivery of OCR text formatted nicely that is not the images (brown and hard to read) better for printing and reporting OCR errors.
• Way to pin point errors in both Metadata and the OCR and get information back from BHL members and public authorized or unauthorized users

• Export of BHL Titles for integration into library catalogs
• Copyright statement - Portal needs to pull the copyright "due diligence" statement that is in the Wonderfetch line.
• Ability to download a PDF of selected pages
  • Might this technology be a model for adding to Biodiversity Heritage Library in order to produce custom combined PDFS from specified pages?
    • Go to: http://www.literature.at/webinterface/library
    • In the “Search Box,” type “lexikon” (using “k” not “c”)
    • Choose any volume from the BIOGRAPHISCHES LEXIKON...
    • Click on any of the first few page images which show as thumbnails on the left
    • Jump 50 or 100 pages in the GO box at the top just to get well into the volume
    • You can now specify a page range in the PDF GO box on the upper right to create your customized PDF file.
      • This works BEAUTIFULLY. (suggestions from David Steere, SIL)
    • CDF: This is iText, also in use by Harvard PDS & Madrid's Digital Library. Will look into possibilities. Also a build in C#.
