Wish list of functions and suggestions for workflows (some items are holding places to be filled in with real suggestion but are reminders for now.)

Better way to navigate to Admin functions (Eventually)
Wording next to pencil that says Edit (or something like that)
Every page that is editing screen to have consistent page name (for ease in referencing to one another about where we are)

Option to go straight to Dashboard instead of searching for a title and then clicking our little pencil.

Dashboard

• Move the NAMES editing screen away from library function since we believe that is for taxonomic names on pages - should there be a "scientists" page? Change label to Taxa or something more about the science part
• Pages - is paginator - right? Possibly a better name on the dash board
• Move "Creator" to library functions - make searchable. Connect easily to bibliography of works associated with creator - especially for cleaning up names - verify by looking at title pages etc.

Reports

• Pagination? Not sure what this report is and what the difference is between "in progess" and "pending" - Move all paginator things together?
• Report by institution, events and edits on our records, what has been edited, maybe others

Title Edit Screen:

• Marc tags for all fields (some are there - more please)
• Creator: is this 1xx 7xx?
• MarcBibId - morphed from leader - is that still used for anything
• Chunk on to this screen the link to the ITEMS edit page.
• Add searching by OCLC number and IA Identifier/MoBot Barcode and SIL Barcode number that is currently called Identifier BIB
• Re-sequencing at once/full screen at a time. Re-sequence with decimals (e.g. 1.5 would place item between 1 and 2, renumber them as 1, 2, and 3 when updated)
• Put Save button at both bottom and top of screen
• Drop down boxes for 100/700 author only display subfield a

Items Edit Screen:

• This would be better to incorporate more into the Title Edit screen - chunk it there?
• Better search options since the identifiers are hard to figure out
• BHL ingest seems to "un-sequence" items that had been previously sequenced (with placeholders left for missing items)
• Barcode search box label. IA Identifier and MoBot Barcode but the label is confusing us.
• Identifier Bib: box currently is pulling SIL barcode. We need to be able to search out barcode that is in the Identifier Bib.
• When saving edits to an Item page, return to the Title page instead of the Dashboard
• Put Save button at both bottom and top of screen
• On 5/28/09 I noticed a change; when making edits to an Item page, clicking on Save brings you back to the (same) Item page [previously you were brought to the Dashboard]. In an ideal world, after saving the edit to Item page, I would like to have the option of either searching for a new Title (Return to Dashboard) or return to Title page.

Page editing (Paginator?)

• Have search capability and browse option (page takes for ever to load since it is taking the first title)
• is there *any* way to automate the pagination process?

Terminology

• IA uses barcode for identifier string - but the BHL portal Admin editing screens - do we have to use "barcode" label?
• We need to consistently figure out words like

  • identifier
  • page
  • volume
  • sequence
  • add
  • remove
  • barcode

Functions:

• Add item - ? is this really reassigning /relinking scan to another title
• Is there a check and balance that if you remove something you put it elsewhere or make "dark"?
• If we are opening more than one screen to copy identifiers and paste elsewhere to edit, the information didn't seem to reflect the new edits with just refresh - we researched the title again. ( Edited Item Volume information on Item edit page but the associated title edit page didn't match on just refresh)
• Splitting out a "bound with" that needs separate metadata - can we "fetch" data or need to type in correction? How do we split apart? Is this part of the articlizer process?

(SIL Example: P:\ISD\BHL\SIL in BHL\internet archive problems and the item is the excel spreadsheet entitled IA Metadata Problems.xls. It’s the last six items on the list, all sharing the barcode 39088000412064, Nomina systematica generum Myriapodum, tam viventium quam fossilium, nominasystematic00eric, nominasystematic02eric, nominasystematic03eric ... 06eric)

• Multi-approach to a title - serial/series/monograph etc. (Example: SIBOGA EXPEDITION volumes. Go to BHL site: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/bibliography/6557.)
  • Is there a need for "import" of marc record that can link to a scan?
• Searching - better searching from the Dashboard: keyword, the barcode that we use - the real barcode not the IA identifier
  • Recreate the searching options from the BHL Portal from the Dashboard

Notes:

You have assign an item to a new title FIRST then remove from wrong one. No orphaned items allowed. Potential work for scan pointing to two record. Both records have to be in the portal.
