The purpose of this page is to track the status of developments for CiteBank in the following areas:
Communicating with Content Providers
There are a variety of users that come to us with offers of content:
• Content in PDF form
• Content published via OAI
• Content published via some other repository that they would like us to index
It would be best to stop accepting new submissions to CiteBank as we:
- Develop the BHL website to provide article-level access / display articles
- Transition the existing CiteBank content over to the BHL web portal
- Develop functionality for the BHL website to accept content import outside the IA workflow and serve user uploads, ie serving as CiteBank was originally envisioned
Communication strategy for users that have content to contribute to CiteBank:
- (Send monographic PDFs for processing via Botanicus workflow – get approval from Doug, Micelle & Mike B.)
- Thank users for their offer of content
- Inform users of current status
- Offer to scan content from scratch instead
- Submit users to a queue of potential contributors and maintain a database for follow up in the future
- Set some timeframes for getting back in touch with users for status updates; even if new functionality, see 3) above, is not yet complete, send potential contributors information on progress
- Solicit help from potential contributors to develop possible use cases
Possible language for use in communicating with content providers:
At this time we are no longer accepting submissions to our content repository, CiteBank.
We are re-evalutating the current platform with the aim of developing a new method for accepting born-digital content and indexing citations to existing web content directly in the BHL web portal.
Blue Sky Questions
- Can we bring in PDF content from the Internet Archive? Should we explore this as a possible strategy for loading born-digital content into BHL, ie have users direct upload to IA and then we ingest?
- Can the Macaw installation at SIL bring in PDFs? If so, could I get an intern to help Trish and I load PDFs into BHL this way?
