BHLE London Agenda:
BHLE_Fall+Meeting_agenda
General BHLE updates:
- prototype of new portal (Bianca) http://prototype.bhle.eu/
- best practices guide (Connie)
- workflow survey (Grace & Joe)
- OCR crowd-sourcing vs. vetted/moderated OCR correction (Bianca)
- Observations (Grace and I gathered but...): (Bianca)
- Feedback at the institutional level vs. portal level
- we’re lucky we all speak the same language: “title” vs. “item”
- permissions seems to occur at institutional level not at BHLE level, more information here: BHLE_WP4
- BHLE rights management still needs to be articulated, BHLUS stance of open access for all materials made apparent
- timeline update: (Bianca)
- GRIB release April 2011
- BHL-E live portal release April 2012
GRIB updates
Link to GRIB prototype
- the intent of the GRIB is to serve as a: (Grace)
- repository for all bibliographic records from all BHL (global eventually) institutions, i.e. a union catalog
- selection and deduplication tool as first step in digitization workflow
- Requirements gathering:
- communicating our workflow to Boris -- .ppt (Bianca) BHLworkflows.pptx
- provided them with an example of how the GRIB could look if it incorporated current BHL US selection and dedupe tools, i.e. mono deduper and scanlist (Grace) Ideas for the GRIB.doc
- pending decisions: (Grace)
- serials: incorporation of a widget that will function as the scanlist, ability to place free-text partial/complete bids on volumes
- monographs: proposed work-around to batch-upload spreadsheets of monographic metadata for comparison against GRIB records
- monographic serials: opportunity for more thorough deduplication process as all monographic and serial records are available in 1 tool; unknown if batch upload process would work for monographic series, may be able to treat monographic series as serials TBD
- Pending BHLE decision to incorporate all BHLE library catalog metadata into their portal even if no scanned content exists (Bianca)
- impact on BHL US (& global) is minimal in that we should be replicating their archival repository, which only stores scanned content
- timeline: GRIB pending final release by April 2011
