AGENDA and NOTES
- Secretariat Update (MRK)
- Donations report. $675/15 donors (21 July - 24 August 2017)
- BHL Europe Content. Latest message from Chris Sleep indicates that the final data loads for shipment to the US have taken a back burner slot. The initial technical deadline does not seem as rushed as it did before. What are the EC timelines on this? Are there concerns there could be a "hurry up" call from NHM to get the data off the servers? Any ramifications if the data were to be lost and do we need any further higher level discussions with the NHM IT/Tech staff to deal with this? On a related topic, should we have a project plan for overall management of the BHL Europe content?
- University of Houston NSF Proposal. MRK spoke with Karen Snyder (Digital Media Department, U of Houston). Snyder is seeking BHL collaboration on an NSF proposal around STEM learning and video games.
- Revised BHL Brochure Listing Members. As per the instructions of EC, Grace Costantino offered some options to redesign the back of the current BHL brochure to accommodate additional Members. It's the strong believe of EC that Brochure include all Member institutions in print form. Grace offered the following designs for review.
- Oak Spring Garden. The Affiliate application for the Garden was passed along to the Membership Committee; Secretariat has discussed splitting the orientation (if they are approved of course) into to parts, 1) Outreach and Communications (to happen sooner than later); 2) Content Generation/Aggregation (when the OSG staff are ready for work in that area)
- Upcoming Meetings.
- GBIF 24. Martin will be attending (along with Connie), the GBIF 24 meeting
- TDWG 2017. Carolyn will be attending and TDWG and managing the BHL symposium. Due to conflicts, Martin will not attend this year.
- NDP at 3: Envisioning the next 3 years of the National Digital Platform. Martin has been invited to participate in this IMLS visioning meeting in Washington, 17 Oct 2017.
- CETAF (Fall 2017). Neither Connie, Jane, or Gildas is able to attend the Fall meeting, but Connie will continue to try and stay in touch with them. Gildas and Jane both hope to attend in the future.
- EOL Steering Committee Meeting (27-28 October 2017). Connie recommends that due to costs, BHL not attend in person and see if there will be a call in or other reporting option. Connie will contact Bob Corrigan to find out more details about the meeting and the EC can review then.
- BHL Member Call for AU and SG. Martin and Carolyn gave a debriefing for Eli and Way Yin on the past and upcoming Members Call. Minutes: Aug2017_MembersCallforAustandSing
- Strategic Plan: Next Steps. Discussion
- Technical Update (MRK) [Reminder: all Tech team call notes are here]
- BHL Tech Meeting. Planning continues for the September Tech meeting.
- BHL Batch Segment Definition - Requirements (v2). With input from various staff, this document was closed out.
- HTTPS. We have still not activated HTTPS on the BHL site; getting Joel to expedite this which has dragged on for too long.
- Topics from the Chair (Connie)
- IFLA 2017 Report (Connie and Nancy). Connie presented a BHL poster; there were two other poster presentations (Japanese STEM and MfN Berlin) that could be potential BHL partners. Connie also visited the Russian National Library booth and will follow up with them. Connie also organized a BHL meet up attended by Elaine Ng, Wai Yin Pryke, and Bill Naughton (NZ). Nancy also met with Elaine and Wai Yin. There is interest in organizing something around BHL and IFLA 2018 (which will be in Kuala Lumpur).
