Collections Update Q1 2010
Collections Talking Points.docx
My initial calculations for 3/22 showed that 7% of BHL titles are serials. I asked Mike to run a query (2 weeks later) and he found that the 7% of serial titles is comprised of over 30,000 items. This roughly means that of the total volumes in BHL (now nearly 79,000), serials account for about 39% of our collection. Please note that we also have an approx. average of 12 volumes per serial title. Mike includes a nice breakdown of this average below.
Please keep in mind that because these numbers were not all calculated on the same date, they are not perfect, but they still provide an approximate overview of how our collection is comprised. Another thing to keep in mind is that we have many serial volumes in BHL that are cataloged as monographs so they are not being counted as part of this 39%.
The current numbers are: 30742 active items in 2554 serials, so I guess that’s 12 volumes per serial.
A few more numbers… of those 2554 serials:
559 have just one volume
823 have 2-5 volumes
412 have 6-10 volumes
475 have 11-25 volumes
254 have 26-100 volumes
31 have more than 100 volumes
