- Ag land grant mission sciences
- digitizing collections since very early days, var. of digitization project, core historical lit of ag, home ec history coll., entomology virtual library, a number of collections deposited in IA and Hathi Trust (one or the other, not duplicates, been adding records into local catalog, not sure about OCLC)
- ingesting Cornell collections from IA into BHL - need to know which collections Cornell content entered
EOL likes the AU interface and wants to see us adopt elements into our UI
our test is to test functionality b/w the 2 to assess the best look & feel to change the US interface; AU developers to also implement some changes as well
question about browsers - shouldn't be that significant of an issue, good to record but developers develop based on all 4 browsers
how long will test take for the users: 1 hour
why didn't AU adopt taxonomic name finding? well they did but it's buried - something we plan on testing
not meant to be an onerous task, opportunity for anyone who wants to participate to engage with users in a casual sense
of 5 total ppl to be tested you would find 80% of issues from 3 of those ppl; if you can only test 1 person that would be great; is there a minimum number of people, yes 3
Mary & Marty are willing to test... (thank you!)
want to get tests from scientists, librarians, regular users; demographics to be gathered beforehand;
anecdotal test
helpful to get feedback from all kinds of user demographics is valuable
BTW, NYBG had first entry in code challenge
Volunteers
MBL would like to volunteer -- can it be issued remotely...perhaps not, it is valuable to see how people execute the tasks; may be able to do by video conference
MBL did some anecdotal testing for their new site just recently, they may be able to help provide some guidance on their experience; to check in with Diane
NYBG would also like to volunteer; JM says that testing methodology sounds pretty solid
Grace can do one person
Becky can do some to target non-Botanists
JJ can do a few library school students
Michelle at MOBOT can do some
Mary & Marty can too
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOLUNTEERED!
Stay tuned for packet of materials for testing by Oct. 5
what we are testing is the site, not the user, there are no wrong answers, no wrong experience; make it extremely clear that they are really helping you out by doing this, a BIG favor, helps people feel a little less nervous; no developers were hurt during the administration of this test, would not be good to have developers do testing; wanting to test users & potential users of BHL
