Notes
Attendees: Bianca, Marty, Don, Kevin, John, Matthew B., Matt P., Becky, Suzanne, Joe, Chris C.
Great news! Cornell has decided to join at the SC $10K level
Stay tuned for more information about the process for the next scanning allocation money during next month's call.
Regarding new UI, timeline has been pushed back a month. See timeline updates in agenda link. This page is updated as the timeline or other details change.
SP: Is there some sort of requirements document for the new UI available? No, no formal document available but some information may be available (linked to the UI merge page) in the
Usability Test wiki pages
Beta testing should commence mid January, who is interested?
John M., Becky (& reference staff), Matt P.
Would we want to have users do some beta testing for us? Rod Page? (He could provide us with LOTS of helpful info but need to manage his expectations)
Last Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meeting, beta testing was discussed and the idea is currently for BHL staff to do beta testing and William & Trish will be sending out beta testing guidelines
The idea is that this beta testing will be to identify show-stoppers; not meant for design testing, just functionality testing
Should we have a 2nd round of testing for users or include SELECTED users in this 1st round?
BTW, is there a TAG group email? No, not currently but there might be a list at SIL that could be used for this purpose. Suzanne to send out a message.
Action Item: Joe and John to take this up with the rest of the TAG group regarding who should do the testing and when
Real question is about HOW you get people's feedback
Talk of using Bug Herd
http://www.bugherd.com/ for this purpose maybe
TAG to meet monthly
What about potential contacts for proactive solicitation of permissions titles?
MP suggests booths at conferences & meetings as well as asking via social media
Matthew B. may have some opportunities w/ Head of Scientific Publications at AMNH
Don has a few names as well
We've got all of Becky's
Round Robin
MCZ: Chris is around for another month at least (let's hope it's longer!); just sent last shipment to IA; a bunch of stuff is being scanned in-house; @ end of this month will be the end of MCZ scanning $; Joe to look at priority titles
MBL: Responding to Gemini issues and hoping to send "a shelf" of books to the Boston IA center when possible; MP had a unique experience presenting on BHL social media to BioOne board hosted by Cathy Norton
AMNH: Have a shipment down at SIL sent via FedEx and waiting to get it back, Diana Shih is collecting things for future shipments; audit for rescanning IA errors was on hiatus for a while but is now back on, nothing has been sent yet to SIL from this batch.
Cornell: Yay! to be SC members soon (NEG's campaigning helped!); Scanned entomology rare materials and in the final stage of restructuring for upload directly to IA, will hopefully be in IA in January, about 200 titles, most are ento but some others are not, still biodiversity related; sent some other ento materials to vendor and plan to get that into IA in same way as described previously, these items were medium rare; next approach is to send all pre-1923 non-rare content for scanning; have in-house scanning for 1 offs to more easily handle Gemini issues as a pilot
NYBG: Mini grants expected to come from NY Lib Council Metro grants, have scanned state & local floras through previous grants and these things have gone into BHL; expecting another grant in early January, IA is the scanning partner for these Metro grants; also scanning Global Plants Initiative GPI stuff, all orange bag, in their 5th year of scanning, content hosted @ JSTOR, scanning fragile items in-house or sending to Kirtas.
Newsflash: NYBG received Metro grant to scan Diatom lit - Congrats!
TAG Update (JM) Joel Richard is approaching SI regarding central Macaw implementation - so many reasons why it is good to have central system esp re: bug fixes, functionality improvements, etc.; challenges are that getting things through the SI process can take time, also space issues and resource issues, Joel's job is to work on revamping the SIL website; what is the priority of Macaw development?
Cal Acad: Have been experiencing some weird QA issues and has been bothering IA to fix the problems "a lot," slowly seems to be getting fixed; lots of connecting content things going on but will have to send email update, had to report on grant in Oct/Nov
SIL: No workflow representative present but Bianca talked about the recent donation campaign - sounds like things are going well and the vision statement is to be worked on after the holidays. Suzanne requests that Grace report on donation campaign for next call.
Happy Holidays and see you in Mayan Heaven!
