If you would like to promote BHL to a listserv yourself, below is some suggested boilerplate text that you can use to introduce BHL:
__The Biodiversity Heritage Library__
Do you need access to taxonomic and biodiversity literature for your research? Do you need to review a natural history rare book but don’t have access to a library collection that owns it? Do you need to retrieve a species bibliography listing citations of species names occurrences throughout the published literature record? Do you want to be able to download copies of these books to your personal computer? Do you want all of this for free?
Check out the__Biodiversity Heritage Library__, an open access digital library for biodiversity literature. BHL provides free, full-text access to millions of pages of biodiversity literature, digitized from the collections of its_ member and affiliate libraries__ and_ global partners_. BHL collections are truly comprehensive, spanning the 15th-21st centuries, and including some of the rarest titles in the natural history canon.
You can__download the full PDF__ of any book in BHL, as well as__create custom PDFs__ from select pages. Using BHL’s taxonomic intelligence service (__Advanced Search\Scientific Names__), you can search for a specific scientific name and have a list of all mentions of that name throughout the BHL corpus returned to you as a species bibliography. Want something that BHL doesn’t have? You can__submit a request__ for the item to be scanned, free of charge to you!* Need access to scientific illustrations?__BHL’s Flickr account__ provides access to thousands of illustrations gleaned from the BHL collection, all made freely available under Creative Commons licenses.
