Debrief on schedule for Advanced search bug fixes and proposed toggling functionality
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Efl9Ju4bjAvYwt47_Wm2tS2ZHY6LHPIxqNN0B1CZ9E0/edit?usp=sharing
For quick reference, backgorund info on full text feedback:
- Advanced search bug where results are not limited to exact string matches within quotes, or limited to the field that is being searched. (79381, 79358; 79400, 79375).
Decision: To be worked on the next opportunity Mike has between work on priority tasks (e.g., API v3 and transcriptions; and before work on DOI assignments) - Link to old interface - August 7; look into how frequently old interface is still being other used.
Discussion:
Removing volume from Advanced Search would facilitate indexing for bug fixes with minimal anticipated impact
on users (based on review of searches in 2016 logs per Mike's email) .
Discussion:
Interest from botany library community in searching by identifiers such as TL2 or Soulsby numbers.
TL2 numbers, unlike OCLC numbers not long enough to stand alone
Admin dash supports assigning TL2 numbers; most put into Notes field where not searchable.
Botany libraries that number is important enough. People would work towards identifying those.
Joel and Susan will continue the discussion offline for now.
Update on API v.3
Per RACI matrix, follows on the Advanced Search bug fixes.
Transcriptions
Mike will be requesting files and those should be coming in as he addresses Advanced Search bugs
Anything needed from Tech Group at this point?
Follow up on action items from prior calls
- Susan will look for a Gemini issue and verify this is still a problem (See comment in transcription document) - Susan opened issue 79504. Filters seemed to not be working. In Chrome. Susan will also check in Firefox and MS browsers. Mike sees the problem in Chrome now.
- Carolyn updated Gemini ticket 61157 to look Bianca back in on date issues with MODS exports.
- Carolyn followed up with Bianca on Supplement.
- 60989 and 60752: Carolyn will clarify with Bianca what is needed for resequencing. Fairly complicated to implement. These should be two separate issues. Page type vs. Piece type.
- 60922 : Mike will create an indicator at the item level in the admin dash to prevent ingest of article metadata from external sources such as BioStor. Involves database changes, changes to Admin site, and BioStor processes. For revisiting after transcriptions.
- For June 25 or later: Susan will consult with Cataloging Group on status of author name work. (They have a call in about two weeks from now; Tech Team will revisit after that call). Group met about a week and a half ago. Still needs to be ironed out. Another meeting scheduled for next week.
- To revisit after Transcriptions: Moving Walls (58083) - links to content on publisher/rights holder website that is more recent than what would be available in BHL
Decision: (from discussion with Martin) To be worked on after Transcriptions, before DOI assignments.
As a heads up, last week all of the Linnaeus Link group were talking about Soulsby numbers and BHL, etc. BHLers included David Iggulden, Susan, Susan, Judy, and Collin. A lot of enthusiasm and may want to approach us about getting a flat file or export with Soulsby entries in it. They would use it to enhance their own database and website.
