TechCall_21may2018
Agenda
- API status update
Finished initial round of development. Sent to Susan and Joel for feedback. Susan expects to respond by end of today. Announcement to API key holders. Blog post. Carolyn will let Grace know. - Transcriptions - anything needed from Tech Team or those providing test files?
Mike is pulling together the planning documents. First step might be to turn it into coherent set of requirements. - Doodle poll for next Tech Call: https://doodle.com/poll/2629f3ckivgrp96a
- Geographic Name finding project - Ben and Sarah Brumfield are attending IIIF meeting. Let them know Joel is there as well.
- EuropeanaTech Update - Martin attended last week. Also included IIIF workshop before meeting which MRK didn't attend. Discussions of transcriptions as well. Met with BNF representatives regarding possible consulting on BHL v.2, specifically around IIIF and BHL Europe content perhaps via Gallica. Also met with George Oates (formerly Flickr, now IA), follow up discussions on data visualizations.
- Data Model Update - One of first phases of BHL V.2 will be re-working data model. Martin has been in discussions with IndexData as potential contractor to work with us on that. Once reviewed, we can roll out meeting for cataloging meeting with aggressive goal of having it completed by end of calendar year. Met with Anton Issac and discussed how could also assist with getting content in Europeana. Also met with Henning Scholz.
What's in scope? Right now everything that came up in NDSR discussions is in scope. - Wiki Replacements Private wiki will be Confluence. Bianca will manage that transition process. Joel and Bianca will look into automated ingest of content. May require Mike's assistance. For public wiki, that will be hosted on WordPress. Grace will manage that. Editing will be frozen on May 31.
- Taxon names in BHL - status of communications with Dima. Action Item: Joel to follow up with Dima.
- Oversight of pushed updates - regarding discussion about OCR issues in BHL following pushed updates. Discuss establishing a procedure to reduce future issues. Action Item: Joel and Mike to define details of when it will be looked at for rebooting App server.
Unrelated to the OCR syncing issues. This time, OCR shares didn't get set back so OCR wasn't displaying. For the syncing following IA issues, most is now done. 175 items had to be pulled and refreshed. Mike is checking them now. Action Item: Susan can look at the 3 in the Gemini issues and respond to Rod. Ingest went fine this weekend.
- Open Gemini Tech issues. These are of varying complexity and we may not get through all of them on this call:
- 60922 - Batch Article Enhancements
Action Item: To prevent duplication of articles, create an indicator in admin dash that will prevent ingest of article metadata from outside sources such as BioStor.
Also related to 60922, it's unclear if batch updates of DOIs for segments is still a top priority. It seems the larger issue is not being able to export the DOIs using the API, as the documentation indicates should happen. Action Item: Mike will look into not being able to export DOIs using the API.
60952 - updating error message. If change this one, should change others. Martin said go ahead and look into those.
61182 - Updating Segment types - Action Item: Mike will look into if Segment Types "BookItem" "Journal" and "Unknown Item" are being added, for example by BioStor. That will help inform if it makes sense to move forward at this time on that part of the issue. For the request to add a pop-up with definitions, this is seen as a nice feature to have but not a top priority.
60710 - Entering MM-DD without a year may go against ISO standard for how dates should be entered and might create issues with search down the road. We won't do this one. Action Item - Susan will talk to Diane about using the page prefix instead. - OCLC (61157) There is a problem with the dates in the MODS export that are creating issues for sending records to OCLC.
Action Item: Mike will look into this to see what would be needed and to make sure it wouldn't conflict with what DPLA would need for their exports. - Author name help for Cataloging Group - Susan was there a Gemini issue for the assistance that cataloging group was looking for? Note: Susan will work with Cataloging Group to pull together more information before proceeding. We'll revisit this on a future call.
- Adding suppl. to Macaw and admin dash for pagination (58613, 61034) - May 17, 2018 FYI, Chloe and Vincent asked about 61034 via the ad hoc Staff call. Action Item: Carolyn to clarify with Bianca what is needed for this.
- Volume re-sequencing (60989, 60752) - May 17, 2018 FYI Chloe and Vincent asked about 60989 via the ad hoc Staff call. A drag-and-drop resequencing functionality would address this best but would be complex to implement. There may also be some other confusion on this one. Action Item: Carolyn to clarify with Bianca on what is needed for this one.
- Moving pages to different files for HUH correspondence (61018, 61074, related to 61091 which is now in Diane R's court to work on)
- Strange navigation with zooming in IE (60953)
