AGENDA AND NOTES
- General Update (Martin)
- Permissions from in copyright serials:
>> REPORT: Martin reported that Tom Garnett and others were working on obtaining permissions from various journal editorial boards. The working list of titles and status of requests will be available shortly. One of the first titles is Entomological News.>> REPORT: Martin reported that work on the PD is moving along and that a possible candidate has been identified. We would like to fill the position in November if possible. We will likely have assistance if we need it from the Acting Secretaries' Office in pushing this along. We also hope that the PD will be similar to others so that not too much work will need to be done at the OHR level.- Current scanning with Melissa Bell:
>> REPORT: Melissa is working on scanning SIL Materials; there have been various issues (connectivity, etc.) that have kept production low at this point. SIL materials are, however, appearing on the IA website. Questions about the longevity of the SIL scanning center were raised. Since the whole "regional scanning center" is still an open question, we do not know exactly what the situation will be over the course of the next 12 months. IA (Robert Miller) is working on hiring the permanent SIL/Washington IA staff but we haven't heard anything lately. - Report on RLG Workshop in Chicago (Keri and Leslie)
REPORT: Leslie and Keri reported on the "Digitization Matters" workshop sponsored by RLG Programs. Both reported that it was an excellent meeting and provided food for thought. Leslie also noted her visit to UIUC to meet Betsy Kruger and see the IA scanning set up there. - Preparation for St. Louis meeting
- Seriality test with Penn State (Suzanne)
>> REPORT: There are some problems with the Penn State tool; Suzanne is working with them to resolve this. Suzanne and Conrad Ziyad will be working to test the tool with BHL scanned content and report when more is know about how/if it is working. - Scanning Workflow (Keri?)
- Where do we stand with materials (do we have enough for Melissa to keep busy while everyone is away in STL?)
>> REPORT: there was a review of where we stand on the current materials pulled for scanning. Marcia raised issues related to the "serials bid list". Since this hasn't been used (officially or in a systematic manner), we hope to have more information after the St. Louis meeting.
Melissa says she has enough on her current cart to keep her busy through next week, however it would be nice to put a few more items on her cart. If time permits, Keri and Courtney will pull some 2004> issues of Ent. News and Suzanne/Vanessa will review before the 11th.
>
** Ready to start some serial scanning (?!)
