September 20, 2011 BHL Executive Committee notes
BHL Executive Conference call Sept 20, 2011
On call: Tom Garnett, Chris Freeland, Graham Higley, Cathy Norton, Connie Rinaldo
TOPICS
A. BISON - see email sent out earlier Meeting on Sept. 27-29: conference organizer wants Martin or Tom to head up a break out group on literature. May result in funding opportunities. USGS will probably will join the IC. We can announce that USGS has joined BHL at Life and LIterature.
B. BHL - structure: Cathy, Graham and Connie should check with Nancy about structure ideas before the IC call.
C. Next IC call date will be set soon.
Next face to face meeting is in Cambridge, early March (Harvard Spring break is week of March 12 and this would be the best time to meet in Cambridge.)
D. Placement of BHL on EOL. How respond? Let Bob Corrigan know this isn't working. Chris, Graham and Tom have had conversations with Bob. EOL has made a big investment in BHL so they do want to improve things. EOL has been more focused on being an educator/outreach tool and less emphasis on scientists lately. Identifying nomenclatural acts in BHL has been put on the back burner for now. We deliver the raw data. So we do want BHL to be featured and we want to improve the content such that we are the only supplier of data (?).
EOL component leaders are meeting in Woods Hole on Nov. 7. This may be a good place to work on this problem. Tom will put it on the agenda for the meeting.
E. BHL-Europe: Boris will be speaking with VZG about the GRIB shortly and we hope to have an update next week.
F. Usability tests are under development to compare BHL-Australia/BHL interfaces.
G. Cross-ref is challenged by BHL but we have a way forward and Mike will implement within a couple of weeks.
G. Announcement about Cornell at Life and LIterature--yes along with USGS, we can have a photo op. . On wiki, in distribution list. Tom has spoken to Mary.
