Agenda:
- Collections committee update: priority lists
GC reported that the group created a priority list for botany and zoology for serial titles; various rankings were done; also reviewed by the group. - Best Practices Cookbook
SCP reported that after being pelted with questions from projects doing mass scanning, she wanted to get together the BHL best practices together. Because the BHL wiki has lots of "weeds" and "think pieces" from long ago, new members joining the wiki are finding these and thinking these are decisions and not working documents. BHL-Europe and the Medical Heritage Library (MHL) are two of the key question askers. SCP is working with the BHL staff group to get together the outline of things. Please review the work being done and give SCP or GC or BC input. - OCLC records - they are a coming!!
SCP reports that BHL records will be loaded into OCLC by the end of August. The BHL OCLC symbol is BHLMR; probably about 30,000 items. - Global BHL News
GBHL meeting is scheduled for September 22-24 in Woods Hole; the agenda and participants are being built on the wiki. Please take a look and if you have questions, talk with me about SIL concerns for the meeting. - Field Notebook updates
SCP reported on the various field notebook projects. 1) CLIR funded project at Smithsonian (SI Archives, Botany); 2) IMLS grant proposal (Cal Academy et al.). The CLIR project will be primarily metadata at the collection level and will create a schema to collect the data. BHL will participate in this project by possibly scanning some of the field notebooks. The IMLS project will connect field notebook.
