Topics for discussion:
- Selection
David/Gil's request:“Annals and Magazine of Natural History.“ (The rank 1 definition is “collection items have significantly deteriorated, perhaps to the point where their value is questionable or in jeopardy.”). BHL has quite a number of issues online, and it is not complete. This title is a good example of the issues of 'fill-ins' as well as prioritizing titles with condition issues. Currently we have pulled a portion of this title, and Vanessa is reviewing. - Prioritizing NH Main serials
All NH Main are in the SIL pick list; KT has made a list of all the titles that are in our collection and have NO bids on them in the bidlist; - Serials Holdings Project Update
MRK asked to have BAE publications in Smithsoniana get holdings records for eventual scanning; prioritization of serials holdings will be NH main, Botany after; Bianca will "sit in" on the process - Update on extracts (NH main monographs, VPal, Bot/Hort)
Bess reported tha tthe NH main monograph extract has been with the SIRIS office for a week; the deadline is 8/21; Bess has been working on the Bot/Hort extract herself, going well and working on formatting issues; hasn't started VPal yet - Status of information back to SIRIS (from last meeting) (SP, BM)
Bess reported that the request for doing this is ready to go to the SIRIS office; Lowell has signed off on the request; this has been bumped down the priority list - Upcoming BHL-E meeting in St. Louis
More information after; others attending include Kai from MfN and staff from Atlas of Living Australia - Report from the team: Where are we pulling? How are shipments going? QA? (EJT, GD)
Pulling gap fills and foldouts from ALL locations; awaiting on a curatorial name from Gil to get materials from another entomology office; books are also returning to all collections - Project Gemini: Status of tracking errors in the portal & getting portal feedback. (BL, EJT)
Erin and Bianca have been working on the Gemini Project that is a tracking program that links into the BHL portal feedback button; they've been working on triage of the errors that have been submitted to Gemini. This will provide lots of interesting information. Some of this will be discussed on the next staff call. - Second Life Update (BL, GD)
GD and BL met with Holly Miller (MBL) about SecondLife; very interesting discussion; also had some discussions with Breen Byrne (EOL) who told them about MacArthur Island; lots of discussion about clarification of audience; might have some links on the Island between EOL species pages and BHL species content; another possibility might be to have a "BHL Lemonade Stand" (a sort of information booth) that would not be interactive, just a "link site"; will keep the BHL "toe in the water"
