Agenda
- Seidell Fund Awards: What it means to me
- New Camera. SIL will purchase a new Phase I camera for Pennsey Dr. that will scan large format
- Hiring for the camera operator will occur in March
- Workflow will also be determined; a clone of the MOBOT operation is the most likely scenario
- Are we finally going to harvest & store our own scans?
- Rare Books spreadsheet and workflow issues for cataloging and scanning Cullman books:
- Original workflow & spreadsheet plan did not take into account that the rare book contract cataloger would be focusing her efforts primarily on SCNHRB items for the BHL scanning project, so the cataloging part is moving faster than both the preservation review and the preliminary cataloging review to determine which records need upgrading. The spreadsheet with the barcode and item information for rare books is being updated sporadically; is the delay causing problems for those managing the scanning portion of the work? Also, for efficiency, the Cullman staff would like to have the newly cataloged volumes scanned ASAP so that they don't have to pull and reshelve the books twice (once for cataloging, once for scanning). Thus the cataloging/scanning workflow & spreadsheet process should be reviewed to see if improvements can be made for the actual situation, or at least to document how things are working now. (Diane etc.)
- SIRIS updates.
- Bess has received from George Bowman a number of SIRIS extracts (NH monographs, etc.) that can be used for pulling from these collections.
- Bess has worked with the SIRIS office and started to add 856 links to selected items. This is only monographs. 4,312 monograph links were added; more will be added
- IMLS Grant writing day report. SIL hosted a IMLS grant writing session that was successful. We'll learn more about this proposal related to field notebooks
- Status of NMNH barcoding (might already be covered in rare book stuff above?). Serials holdings funds are for both Botany and NH main; Suzanne and Marcia will talk to Vicki to make sure that the funds are allocated such as that we balance work and funds.
- National Library of Medicine staff met with Keri and Suzanne. NLM is part of a consortium to create the Medicine Heritage Library (modeled on BHL); 12 staff from NLM discussed workflow, collaboration, tech. specs, equipment, etc.
