Feb. 24 --Status Report about BHL -- Gil
Ann and Gil will give a BHL update at the NH EOL liaison meeting later today (notes from Gil below):
Here are a few brief BHL-related notes from the EOL-NMNH Liaison Committee meeting this morning (Ann J., who was asked by SIL to be involved in this committee from its inception, invited me to supply a few BHL details).
Along with Ann J. and me, attendees included Cyndy Parr (EOL), Warren Warren Wagner (Bot), Vicki Funk (Bot), Chris (Frederic) Thompson (Ent), Carla Dove (VZ/Birds), Don Wilson (VZ/Mammals), Jennifer Hammock (IZ) Wendy Wiswall, and Cristian Samper.
We had BHL as a brief agenda item, and I gave an update with the current numbers, what libraries had been “done,” and where we are at NMNH, mentioning the improved scanning capability for larger items such as fold-outs. I also talked about the burgeoning global partnerships, which provoked a discussion on similar and overlapping EOL partnerships.
I emphasized that there was wider access than ever to BHL content, like through SIRIS, and that the portal was always being improved. Cristian stressed the importance of getting more NMNH curatorial contributors to EOL, and that EOL content was dependent on the ease of access to the literature through BHL. He said he was confident the BHL project was in good hands.
When I brought up the upcoming BHL survey, Cyndy said that EOL was also in the process of creating a user survey. I’ve mentioned this to Bianca, who will be in contact with her to perhaps coordinate surveys.
