Agenda and notes
1. Welcome all - Chris was introduced around and those who had not met previously now have faces to go along with names and voices
2. BHL Technician position update
Keri hopes to have this done ASAP. Gil and Suzanne are helping her review the applicants and will assist as needed on interviews etc.
3. Status of the Smithsonian published titles and the runs that we can do at FedScan:
First these three:
- Bulletin of the US National Museum
- Proceeding of the US National Museum
- Smithsonian Misc. Collections
Then review these two:
- Annual Report of Smithsonian Institution
- SI Contributions to Knowledge
Workflow:
- Martin is going to talk to Amy about the status of the volumes.
- Marcia is going to talk with Martin and Vicki about the contractors doing the barcoding.
- Marcia, Vicki, Contractors and Keri will talk about getting the barcoded volumes on to the picklists /packing lists for FedScan
4. FedScan we hope to be able to really supply with material by July.
- Keri is looking into ordering carts and wrap
- Gil and Martin will work on books and serials to be picked (as well as SI published stuff see above #3)
- East loading doc is the shipping and receiving location. Back up to Keri is Erin and Ann J. Back up tot the back up will be Suzanne.
5. Space planning at NH
- Off site storage options in light of BHL scanning needs serious consideration. Ann needs to think and talk with staff
- Readers Services need a BHL talk. Ann will see about getting this on an agenda.
- SIL and NH staff need a BHL Talk. Martin and Ann will see about scheduling this
4. Chris Freeland gave general updates on BHL
- Reiterated that BHL is stand alone from EOL
- Criticism from curatorial staff to library staff about EOL should be redirected to successes of BHL
- Keep the project separated though the funding is tied. EOL is a prime example of a use of BHL but not the sole use.
- Tomato seeds were discussed.
