Portal Edit Policy Considerations
F2F Portal Editing Policy Questions
Back
- Dupes - do we eliminate, keep, redirect, how about users telling the difference?
- Gemini example User reference correction/confusion -- who's METADATA is right?! Publication history...
- Uploading MARC records
- Simple (pan-BHL) fixes, everyone should just do it! -- So, what are simple fixes?
- sequencing
- diacritics
- pagination if you have the book
- enum & chron (look at Standards for Bibliographic Items)
- merging -- which metadata becomes the "parent" metadata, which institution - the one who supplied vol. 1?
- institution fulfilling gap-fill should merge titles in portal (merge their volumes into record for original institution who contributed content?)
- pagination if you don't have the book?...what about thumbnails?
- Erin and Grace talked to Mike about the possibilities of thumbnails. Because we do not house the files for the images on our server, every update to the paginator would require the pages in each book to re-load from IA (again and again and again). This would make the paginator un-usable. Thumbnails, thus, will probably not be an option. Perhaps discuss other options, or if we even need something new, at the F2F meeting in early Nov.
- explanation of paginator tool for Botanicus http://botanicus.wikispaces.com/Pagination
- ILL as a means of replacing content, inserting gap-fills
- scenario 1: Scanning institution with metadata can ILL from non-scanning institution
- scenario 2: Suggestions?
- Merging difficult titles (bibliographic help please) AND pointing multiple existing MARC records to one scan
- Other: Suggestions?
