OCA meeting workflow planning doc

BHL Workflow Sub-Meeting issues for Discussion at OCA meeting at San Francisco
Back to IA workflow document

Aim: to agree additional points that apply across the BHL partners, with a form of words, to add to the existing IA workflow guidelines to create a set of BHL Project specific guidelines.

Key issues for inclusion (in no order of priority):

Fold outs: IA needs to make solving the 'foldout' problem a higher priority. We do not care how they do solve it, but it needs to be done, as they have been promising a solution for over a year.
do BHL needs fold outs to be done? At what point in process and by whom? If separately how stitch back in to main work?

IPR issues:
Copyright/IRP notice - we need the addition of a 'permission to digitize' statement
IRP copyright 1923 technical limit imposed by IA,
Copyright field

Serials volume level metadata

Saving local copies of scans and how that works with the IA.
Improve download speed or provide tools for us to batch download at certain times.

Post-scanning quality control checks – what are they, what should they be. Eg what problems found during scan and whether corrected, or alternatively flagged. especially with metadata

Need to be able to supply of packing lists electronically. Not sure we need this? Some of us do supply them electronically, via email to the scanner...not sure what we are asking for here.

Inclusion of contributing library's unique identifier (item id, barcode, etc.) in IA metadata.

Scanning of multiple titles bound together We are requesting that all scanners working for BHL scan each title in a bound-with separately. How do we work this if the library does not have a unique bib record or item id for each title?

Serial monographs: series information (e.g. MARC 440, 490, or 830) is not contained in the metadata.xml file and therefore not searchable. It is present in the marc.xml file. Any way of including it in the metadata?
