Exec Call - November 6
On call: Martin, Connie, William, Susan
Martin, Connie and William gave update on recent TADWG meeting in Sweden. The BHL symposium re: use of standards and services that use BHL, was well attended. BHL poster on DOI. Martin will send out summary and distribute to various lists i.e. TAXACOM and TADWG members from list of attendees. THe Museum of Natural History in Paris is working with BHL data and making connections using BHL content. Annais Grand sees potential for future and looking forward to working officially with BHL. Other good connections include Canada Museum of Nature (Shannon Asencio) who want to work more closely with BHL. Overall BHL mentioned in many project indicat BHL is widely ingrained in the taxonomic community.
Connie gave an update on the BHL Europe call and how they want to develop an real node by gathering all contributors to develop a community and possibly collaborate on funding opportunties. Jiri Fran in Prauge want to facilitate by publishing a white paper for a biodiversity audience. Susan encouraged the inclusion of Librarians (not just techies) and will try to get list of EBHL libraries. Need to include Andrea Kougli at Natural HIstory Library in VIenna.
The CONABIO call is happening later today and the group is planning a meeting for December 15 in Mexico CIty. They wan to be a member at the full level so we will push to get their application to the membership committee before that date for review and ultimate approval. CONABIO is currently looking for other partners but wants to be called "BHL CONABIO"
Anna_leise submitted an affilate application on behalf of SANBI. A membership meeting will be called to review both applications in the next few days.
Martin received the revised MOU from Eric Chin in Singapore and will distribute for review shortly.
William gave a technical update noting changes in the user interface specifically the Contributors page in the BHL portal and also noting that abstracts and notes from Citebank.org are being automatically redirected.
Art of Life has more than 18 million pages processed. Trish connected with Zooniverse on Purposeful Gaming. Project participants are still scanning and transcription willl begin soon using ALA and From the pages.
Mining Biodiversity project choosing vocabularies to tag content and created an algorithm to tag pages automatically.
Susan noted that BHL is mentioned in the Forward to new book Flora Illustrata and prominently featured on the exit panel for exhibit at NYBG
