Meeting Notes
1. General Updates (MK)
- BHL Staff meeting on 11-12 November: 40 colleagues have confirmed they will attend. This will be the largest staff meeting to date. The aims of the meeting will be to:
- Confirm tasks each will take forward
- Agree the slowing down of some central tasks, such as Gemini tasks
- Agree the next stage of the monograph deduper, which can no longer be supported unless a member institution has the capacity to take on the work.
- Discuss on-going project tasks and scope what might be required to keep them going.
- Update on the MLIS grant.
- MBL is changing its status to Affiliate.
- Funding and staffing. Mining Biodiversity Package continues to 11 November, then will recalculate and decide whether or not the technological development can continue. Seeking further funding for CIDAL(?) to continue GC post.
- Drafting an update to the Bylaws Appendix to take into account recently approved changes to membership and affiliate categories for BHL and guidance on fees, submitting content etc. The updated version of the Bylaws will go live on the website having been checked the Membership Committee and to the Members Committee for approval. Propose include factual information in the appendix that can be updated with any minor changes. A one-page information/promotional sheet also proposed.
ACTION: JS to set up the next set of meetings for the Membership Committee in order to process the recent requests to join as affiliates and members.
2. Meetings and Grants
- NG reported meeting colleagues (Roly Keating, Andy Appleyard and Katie ?) from the British Library at the recent IFLA meeting and interest in meeting again to discuss potential participation/membership with BHL.
- NG reported on a meeting held in Dubai organised by Gale Publishing Group at which she gave a talk about BHL and Smithsonian. Librarians from the region were invited and there is potential interest to participate, particularly in term of technical input, possibly form another Global Group.
3. Technical Update (WU)
- WU reported progress on the Purposeful Gaming Project, Dicus and problems surrounding use with one version of Safari.
- WU also reported on World Flora Online meeting in Rio De Janeiro
4. Global Update (CR)
- During the BHL-Europe call on 5 November, proposal to ingest existing BHL content into the central BHL repository agreed. The next step will be to set up testing of the ingest process. A training session at the next CETAF meeting in 2016 was proposed by BHL-E members.
- CR reported BHL Canabio hiring a new BHL(BBL?) coordinator who would attend the staff meeting in November if they are able to take up their new post in time.
- Interest from University of Ontago who will liaise with BHL Australia about contribution and adding content.

- The group will need to start preparing for the next phase of growth for BHL>
- Preparing for the Annual and Global meetings the week of 11-15 April 2016. An outline programme is on the staff wiki.
- Action for the next meeting, confirm days for each session and start adding detail to the agenda, and invitation list for the open session.
