November 4, 2008 BHL Executive Committee Notes

Chris: TDWG--2 presentations a talk on BHL/taxonomic names, poster and talk about JPEG 2000. Like BHL, want more services, more content. A group met regarding citation standards (Anna Weitzman and Rich Pyle are on this group). Some interest in seeing provenance for non-mass journals but for others do not need this immediately. Message: don't stop building services because of dirty metadata! Want citation resolution definitely. BHL was in three other presentations talking about what people want out of BHL. BHL is part of the infrastructure.

Tom: OCA meeting: OCA has several issues to resolve. Google settlement took over the agenda; does not change legal landscape but may have unintended consequences for fair use. Out of Print books will have a monetary value assigned. Google will allow third party mining of data. We should pursue work with data. OK to scoop and ingest California biodiversity data from Microsoft project. They want reciprocity--to host BHL stuff.

BHL Institutional Conference call Nov 13 at 11 AM: next steps on Business Plan/Strategic Plan; Jim Edwards may want input for MacArthur grant by Nov 17. Article repository created some controversy on last call and need to have a document for reaction.

BHL Europe now having weekly conference calls (Graham, Tom and Chris are on this call).
