BHL Executive Committee call - November 15
On Call: Martin, Connie, Nancy,Susan
The committee discussed a realistic timeline for the roll-out of the revised bylaws. Since the bylaws are still in revision we hope to send them to the Membership in a few weeks so they can review and comment before the March meeting in which we will vote on them. We hope to start the discussion of some of the revisions by the December 5th call. May suggest we suspend the bylaws for a one year period--until the next election.
The committee also discussed the role of the Technical director and the Global Coordinator -- and reviewed the budget to consider how to fund those positions over the coming months. Would also like to review the job descriptions or statement of work for those positions. Also discussed the composition of the membership committee and new member review process.
Singapore- The National Archives and the Natural History Museum- National Singapore University has shown interest in joining BHL at the full member level -- $10K Creating BHL Singapore. Washington University may also join at the 10K level with interest in exploring the Arts and Humanities angle of BHL. Possible new affiliate members include L.A. Natural History Museum and Chicago Botanic Garden -- awaiting a formal request from Chicago.
Brief discussion of preparing a written Sustainability Plan for BHL -- Martin agreed to prepare. Also discussed the JSTOR plants offer and the likelihood of hosting another Life and Literature Conference.
