Tech meeting 11/2/15
Trish, Mike, Martin, Bianca, William
Scientific Names status – Bianca is wondering what to do when users complain about the wrong scientific name on a page? When name is wrong is it a BHL issue or Global Names algorithm? WE send the OCR and are asking the service to tell us if it matches anything. Bianca would like to be able to fix it in BHL when users complain. Mike says Admin page for editing names needs to be rewritten. Martin says this functionality needs to be put on the wish list. We only display the names that are verified by a web service (there is an id for the name in a taxonomic database). Bianca will submit a change request to the wish list for updating the admin site. William will contact Dima again to find out if they’ve made any progress. Mike is cloning it from github. Mike says we’d need to run it at SIL alongside the OCR to order for it to be efficient.
RJB Madrid – how are we getting their content? via OAI. Aug 2nd was last time we got updated content from them and only 25 new items this year. Bianca would like to remove RJB links that duplicate BHL content. What’s the best way to do that? If Bianca came up with a list of identifiers for removal can we globally delete them? Mike says yes . We would unpublish them so that next time we get updates on those items it would not overwrite them.
Wiliam send out emailt to staff and members about his new position on World Flora next year.
Staff meeting tech agenda
Purposeful Gaming stations! Folks can use their own laptops to play. Could we get an extra laptop? Do we need someone at the stations? Probably pretty self-directed
Sep room for games.

Science Gossip
Met our challenge of 100k new classifications last week! We will be adding another 5 journals by the end of the month

Purposeful Gaming
Final month of project – partners are spending out their money. We will be doing a 1-2 day challenge in late Nov for a final last push.
When will members vote on project tools to continue to support? Next member meeting is over Thanksgiving so probably would get rescheduled. Should we talk with Tiltfactor about continuing to host the games beyond the end of 2015? Trish will ask Tiltfactor if they would be willing to host for one more year through 2016.
We have started working on building an error matrix to take existing text corrections from the game and apply them to other text that isnt’ run through the game. Challenge is we have very little text corrections to work with.

Mining Biodiversity
Sent in request to iMLS for no cost extension through next year, won’t hear back for a month.
transcription discussions - Trying to include Nicole in next call but she has limited availability. We will go ahead and discuss w/o her. The approach Nicole’s group took was like a Frankenbook.
