AGENDA and NOTES
- Secretariat Update
- Public Wiki Migration - migration to WordPress continues to move forward as planned.
- Private Wiki Migration - migration to Confluence also continues as planned. If you haven't already, please request an account from Bianca.
- Technical Update | Notes from All Calls Are Online
- Full Text Search Feedback: Mike is addressing feedback received on the Advanced Search functionality. As part of these updates, we are also looking into making it possible to toggle between full text and metadata only searches.
- Transcription Ingest Up Next. Mike is working on cleaning up some small Gemini issues and the next major tasks will be the ingest of existing transcription center/project content. He is currently reviewing existing needs documents (generated over the past year) and will create a project plan based on that.
- Topics from the Chair and Members (Connie)
- Strategic Plan Refresh - 19 voted in favor of approving.
- Follow up on issues from the breakout groups at the BHL Annual Meeting.
- Asked Barbara Ferry to bring together small working group to put together recommendations. Group can stay small, (e.g., Tom, Leora, Barbara) with consulting larger group for input.
- Membership Committee will make some proposals around different tiers, dues amounts, and other considerations for capacity/sustainability considerations; and bring those to the EC. Part of that is looking at how to incorporate required participations; might be a separate group but Membership Committee will take first pass. Martin and Carolyn will look at what Secretariat can actually handle in terms of capacity for Members and Affiliates.
- Some issues around 20th C gap might also intersect with print retention issues. Perhaps looking at direction IA is headed with lending in-copyright materials.
- Workflows - would a discussion group of Members and Affiliates be helpful here for reviewing scenarios? Might feed into what kinds of work we might want to ask of Affiliates. Could also be a bigger discussion at next year's meeting. If have more staff there who are actually doing the work. Or we could pass that along to the Staff group. Goal of sharing notions of how to improve workflows.
- Reference Group: Tomoko spoke to Bianca about assigning someone to assist with science reference questions that come in through Gemini. Not that many have come through but setting up a committee would be great. Tomoko to send a proposal to EC on forming the committee.
- Pan-BHL - first small batch of funding coming soon with additional funds available in mid-September.
- Recent/Upcoming Conferences/Meetings (Connie/All)
- CBHL and EBHL - phenomenal meeting. Congratulations to Susan Fraser on winning the CBHL service award! Linnaeus Link was there, too. BHL came up several times in discussion; possibility of becoming Reciprocal Partner. Interested in linking out. They have 2 more years of guaranteed funding from Linnaean Society and they're hopeful beyond that but also looking at sustainability plan. Great opportunity worth further conversation.
- Wonder Woman filming at Smithsonian NMNH!
- New Grants Submitted/Received (Connie)
- Harvard Botany received a grant for their botanical Illustrations was funded, about 8,000 items
- BHL Annual Meeting scheduled:
April 29 - May 3, 2019
