• Secretariat Update
  • Orientations. MfN (3 May) and Cal Academy Workshop (3 May); recently completed workshop for the Field Museum

  • Full Text Search. Moving along with the target date still "May"
  • Wikispaces Replacement. Possible solutions are being evaluated with a target to complete move in advance of the wikispaces shutdown. Grace will be managing the public wiki migration and Bianca the private wiki. Connie has indicated that it would be appropriate to request assistance from BHL Staff to work on the private wiki migration. If there are no objections, Bianca will call for volunteers on an upcoming staff call or via the staff list.
  • Blog Move. Complete
  • Technical Next Steps. The EC has approved moving forward with a two step process beginning work on BHL Version 2. The first step will be an evaluation of the BHL metadata model and of a new metadata model. The BHL Cataloging group will be called on to assist with this and work will begin sometime in the summer (TBD) after further platform discussions are held with the tech team.

• Topics from the Chair and Members (Connie)
  • Strategic Plan. Draft online.
  • The refreshed strategic plan is in the linked document. The refreshed strategy plan covers the next 2 years 2018- 2020. The refreshed version:
    • The five main (overarching) objectives remain unchanged from the previous version. These objectives are still relevant and appropriate.Retains the sub-objectives that are still relevant for the next 2 years.
    • Removed the sub-objectives that have already been achieved.
    • New sub- objectives that have come out of the from survey and workshop at the annual meeting in 2017 have been included if achievable within the two years
    • Align with technical plan
  • The additional ideas from the survey and workshop are in the “parking zone” for inclusion in the work to develop the new strategic plan for 2020 onwards.
  • Members on the call agreed that the current draft would be put forward for a vote.

• Recent/Upcoming Conferences/Meetings (Connie/All)
  • CETAF. Connie, Jane, Gildas, and Jirka Frank are at CETAF now. The reciprocal agreement has been signed and a blog post about that as well as the meeting in general. Major positive step is that CETAF. MfN ceremonial signing also done as a photo op --- more pictures to come!
  • Europeana Tech. Martin will be at Europeana Tech 11-15 May
  • CONUL conference. 30-31 May 2018. Presenting a joint paper about BHL at this the annual meeting of the Consortium of National and University Libraries in Ireland (Connie/Jane).
  • CBHL/EBHL/Linnaeus Link Meeting (19-23 June). Most BHL botanical members are attending. Bianca will also be attending.
  • Northeast Natural History Meeting (March). Connie attended and presented a poster and talked with many people. A successful visit.
  • San Diego Natural History Museum. Martin met with the librarian at SDNHM.
  • Harvard/Bot. Judy reported that Danielle Castronova (former CalAcad) will be starting as the archivist there.
