March 22, 2011 BHL Executive Committee notes

Tom Garnett, Chris Freeland, Martin Kalfatovic, Connie Rinaldo, Cathy Norton
4. BHL Europe agreement: We have MOUs with ALA, BHL China, BHL BA and one in the works with Brazil. These are all similar. The BHLEurope document is radically different. Many things don't apply to BHL. We did sign off on the original e-content plus proposal. It doesn't really fit into the BHL global. This doesn't mention BHL, just Smithsonian and MOBOT. Harvard, MBL could be part of BHL Europe, if everyone agrees. MOBOT could sign and act as the representative and then others could got through their process and sign on more slowly. Need to postpone conversation until Graham is available. Chris noted that MOBOT can sign this now. Smithsonian needs more time. Is BHL part of BHL Europe or are only some institutions part of BHLEurope. Sort of similar to BHL inviting NHM to be part of BHL. Technically there is no need for BHL to be part of BHL Europe. This is a consortial agreement and more complex than the proposal document.
Tom will find a time to discuss this when Graham can join. Cathy will send the EOL document to the group.
5. Martin also will talk to Mary Downes about possible Humanities attendees for Life and Literature.
6. Working through some issues with the Journal of East African Natural History and Citebank--editing metadata, making things dark and other issues we have worked through with BHL but not yet with Citebank.

Tom commended Martin on his work with IMLS and NEH, and putting BHl partners together for grants, particularly since Smithsonian can't apply.
