Tech Review meeting 6/9/14
Present: Trish, William, Mike
Art of Life
Trish putting Final touches on IFLA paper with Nancy and Connie
Need to ramp up Volunteers on classification – need to finish Macaw examples and then send request to BHL staff listserv and contact Tom Baione at NHM
Trish will send latest NEH report to Advisory Board and set up next meeting
Kyle sent export routine to Joel to install – what does this mean in terms of getting more data? Is there data to grab yet? Yes, Mike says there are 2 export files in ftp folder (1 from IMA, 1 from IA) about 800 MB
Joel’s export file from Macaw – how does it look? Loaded fine.
Mike W is installing Samba – software to allow Unix to look at Windows drives and folders. This will help with exports from Macaw.
BHL is now showing some of the Macaw content that’s been tagged as having an illustration– we should notify staff. One limit – our current UI doesn’t show “illustration” if there is a page number. We need to discuss with staff about how they want this data displayed with limited real estate on the UI.
Purposeful Gaming
Gaming Bids in – taskforce will discuss them this Wed 1pm CST
Exocet’s game Catan is based on a board game. Its very complicated with lots of rules so doesn’t really parallel our needs but we can review it for look and feel.
Criteria – what platforms can it run on?
Any updates on tools for managing multiple OCR versions and for splitting up pages in to words? Technical framework deadline is July. Extracting words - we need to provide them some content to play with by July/Aug
Mining Biodiversity
How was meeting on Friday? Canadians presented their report on social communications and BHL. They would like feedback. William will share with other BHL staff once Martin indicates the appropriate folks. What is agenda for this week? Review tools Riza pointed to and try to think about Use cases with BHL specific content
BHL
Impact of Projects on BHL–where is this at? Art of Life and Purposeful Gaming docs done. William is tweaking the Mining Biodiversity,Global names
Uploading CItebank data – Trish will review Mike’s updates and test more data – ready to move to prod this week? Yes as long as changes are OK with TRish
BHL metadata documentation – need more clarity on what is needed and which document should be updated. William will set up meeting with Bianca, Joel, Trish, Mike
Segments creation – Randi was looking for documentation on segment creation. MVZ has created a document that is pretty general and could be used by all staff.
Jackie has notified William that some segments are wrong and William is forwarding this info to Rod Page
Brazil’s ingestion of content – ingesting everything each time, rather than trying to detect new records since last ingest. This has some impact on our server slowdowns. They should be limiting what’s ingested each time based on a date range. There are language Challenges in communicating with them
