BHL Executive Conference Call January 13, 2009





Chris noted that MOBOT pushed out the functional changes. 50 users tried out the pdf generator. One user downloaded an entire book. The pdf generator file is much larger than the static download--buyer beware. We will put a warning on the page and suggest that if you want more than x pages, then download the static pages which are smaller files. Chris will send information about the changes to key people who asked for some of them and then to lists like TAXACOM for feedback.





Architecture meeting--Mike Lichtenberg can't attend the March 19 date. Tom asked if we could have the meeting after the Institutional Council. Chris said that having it with the IC would minimize travel but we don't have to have it before IC. Graham suggested that good timing would be at the EOL Steering committee and in DC. EOL SC is April 23. Chris would like to meet April 20/21. Tom will check on other EOL commitments. Chris asked about forming a Technical Council so that he has a group for feedback. He is thinking about 5 people. Tom said Chris should articulate a charge of about 2 paragraphs then we can suggest members and get IC and Jim Edwards's approval.





Cathy noted that this year is the 150th birthday of MOBOT and 250th of Kew. We should do something to celebrate the birthdays. And Darwin too! Kew and MOBOT are aligning events. Graham suggested that Chris make sure the "event guys" at each institution make contact and we get appropriate dates to add celebratory information to the BHL page.





March 20 is the date for the Institutional Council meeting at Harvard in the Agassiz Room/ Museum of Comparative Zoology.
