Integrating BHL China content
The purpose of this page is to document questions relating to the integrating of BHL China scanned content into the BHL US/UK portal
2011 Chinese Academy of Sciences Meetings page
Issues & Questions for Discussion
- BHL China content has been integrated into the BHL Portal: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/browse/collection/ibcas
- BHL China records do not have MARC records, but some minimal metadata is being provided to IA at the time of scanning - what is this data and where is it coming from?
- How can we improve the records for BHL China content to make them more searchable?
- Until better catalog records are available, users will only be able to view BHL China records as a result of browsing the BHL China collection or through a taxonomic name search
- Who will put together the text for the BHL China collection landing page? See the Darwin's Library landing page for an example http://biodiversitylibrary.org/collection/darwinlibrary
- Would we want to create a Chinese language collection in BHL to aggregate BHL China content with the other handful of Chinese language content scanned to date by other BHL members?
- BHL Admin "View/Update Item Details" module workflows (Grace Costantino, Bianca Crowley, & Mike Lichtenberg) - to discuss briefly at Life & Literature meeting
- Pinyin currently in all lower-case. Is this the standard? Is there any need for capitalization?
- Some MARC records exist for these titles in OCLC, should we consider bringing these records into IA and/or BHL somehow?
- Some BHL member institutions have Chinese language catalogers on hand that may be able to help (MCZ has offered help here, thank you!)
- Making sure that "English" is provided as a language to IA at the time of scanning in an effort to OCR the scientific names in the text
