DecapodLitTest
The Excel file
Decapod Lit test.xls (updated 9/25/08 14:00 ET) is a test using vetted bibliographies as selection tools.
Chris Freeland extracted titles, publishers, authors, etc. from a vetted Decapod bibliography. He and I have reviewed portions of the list to determine what has already been scanned and is in the BHL portal, what has been bid upon, and what remains to be done.
A few notes about the list:
1) The list is separated into two spreadsheets, one for monographs and one for serials. Please keep in mind that the split is not absolute – monographic series, for example could be on either page. All are pre-1923 (out of US copyright).
2) The serials list is sorted by number of citations. However, many titles have duplicate entries (slightly different wording, abbreviations, etc.) so you will notice a lot with the notation “Same As…”. Please let me know if any are incorrect so I can fix them.
3) We did not go through the entire serials bid list. Those titles with peach-colored shading in the citation column have not been checked against the bid list or deduped. If you have information for them (e.g. you recognize a title as one you have scanned), let me know so I can update the list.
4) We did our best to search the serials bid list and identify duplicates and bids. However, this list comes with no warranty. Please, please, please let me know about any mistakes and I will fix and re-upload. Looking into the future, it might be worthwhile to consider having a list that more people can update (such as a wiki page or the bid list).
5) The titles, authors, and publishers were extracted from the list but not the exact volume or year citation. Right now, we are looking at this in the broad context of title-level data. You will note that some are “partial bids” while others are “full bids”. Please feel free to expand the partial bids if you can.
6) Bid and scan to your heart’s content from the list. For the moment, please record your bids both in the appropriate tool (serial bid list or monograph deduping tool) as well as sending them to me so I can update the spreadsheets. As you can see from the list, many of the “top” serials are already done or bid upon but there are still some left on the serials list as well as most of the monographs. The hope is that we can use these types of list to prioritize some of our selections.
Any comments you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
