Classes of content providers:
[From Collections Talking Pts. for IC mtg 3/22/2010]
I have received emails/feedback from 24 content providers of varying classes (as per C. Freeland’s description):
- Self-sufficient major providers – OAI harvestable ex. SiELO and PubMed = 1
- Providers requiring assistance – bulk upload of metadata & content formats needed ex. UniBio = 16 providers / 22 titles
- Self-sufficient minor providers – can use out-of-the-box services in CiteBank (Biblio module) to upload content & metadata, likely 1 by 1 = 3
- Book-like items – upload via IA into portal, ex. Texas conchologist = 2 (institutional publications also fall into this class but are not counted)
- Other providers – I have received offers from individuals who want to provide transcriptions/translations of texts with poor OCR = 2
- 1 contributor w/ unknown classification
WHAT Content for inclusion into CiteBank looks like:
- PDFs of article content
- bibliographies of citations
- What about PDFs for an entire issue or volume? - Apr 28, 2010 Seems to me like it would be better to me to have these in the portal, i.e. rescan them
- What about other miscellaneous content such as transcriptions?
- citations/metadata
HOW the content comes into CiteBank:
What I think we don't want - Apr 28, 2010
- we do not want content that is simply loaded onto a CD w/ no metadata associated -- this will simply take us too much time and $ to process. I think we should simply rescan this content and move on.
- we do not want metadata that is not in a standard reference manager format or could be EASILY converted to a standard reference manager format
What's in ye ol' "Orange Bag"?
- UniBio Press
- JEANH
- Journal of Ethnobiology
- Texas Conchologist (book like items to be incorporated into IA)
