Round Robin
Note: Scanning deadline by end of July
- NYBG run out of money @ this point, want to do Prodromus and hoping to get a bit more money to do it; you don't get invoiced until after things are scanned, thus if the entire shipment isn't finished you are billed for only those items scanned post July, extensions frowned upon so lead time needed in sending carts to scanning center; IA price changes were not made obvious and IA has been billing NYBG at higher rate since Jan! Had been sending shorter length books thus higher charges; scanning facility moving to Princeton, NJ! Shipping charges to go up as it's a 1.5 hour drive and takes up much more personnel time for delivery; June 6 is when Princeton will be ready
- AMNH to have same problem, can't get shippers to go to Princeton; a truck is returning next week; IA not accepting any more until the move ~ 1st week of June; Stacy has not been at scanning center which is causing some scheduling problems; persistent QA problems
- MCZ Chris had been out sick for some time, catching up; Joe out on vacation; sent 1 shipment about 1.5 weeks ago, new shipment going out in a couple weeks, new assistant coming on to take Katie's place, Jacqueline Ford, to work on pagination and Gemini issues
- MBL sent out a shipment at the end of March, 1 more to be sent before the end of July, plenty of Gemini issues to satisfy
- SIL sending a shipment every week, sending avg. 50 BHL titles/wk, all Gemini, still scanning rare & folios at in house facilities
- Field visit Ft. Wayne scanning center a little bit ago, 3.5 hours away; Field MAYBE getting a Scribe? Working through QA of Fieldiana and resending items with issues; other Gemini requests are for rare materials; Christine still sending regular items to SIL for scanning
- MOBOT scanning at a regular pace, mostly Gemini requests, staffing Betterlight folio scanner more now - was 3 days/wk, now 5; working on Orchid project
- CalAcad sent 1 shipment (their first congrats!) w/ 100+ items, later start than most due to communication issues with IA; another 100 items ready to go; major concerns: 1) billing & invoicing, items have lots of foldouts, complex, not sure how much they're being charged 2) keeping up with Gemini and getting worried about not spending the $$ in time, Cal Acad not in the scanlist - what can they do? monographs might be a solution; Grace to help Becky with monographs, Bianca to talk to Wolfgang about getting Becky a list of no-bid items in the scanlist 3) working with IA scanning center has posed some challenges
Question: are state gov publications public domain?
- NHM scanning PT, scanning some monographs for Darwin's Library project but most scanning has been serials, using own $ @ moment, zoology titles, responding to Gemini requests, but having technical issues, working with Keri to resolve issues; Darwin's Library almost completed, not certain when going live.
