Tech Meeting 4/16/14

MOBOT IT meeting --Looking into backup generator for the data center (this would include BHL) to avoid downtimes.
Rod Page – doesn’t like link-outs and blogged about it today.

Art of Life-
Getting help from library volunteers to classify. Trish talked with Doug about Mike B putting in 10% of his time on classifying (in kind commitment to project). Connie did some classification 2 weeks ago and found a bug that Joel has fixed.
Meeting tomorrow to see where kyle is at with getting IMA up and running.

When to add the illustration page type to BHL pages that was identified by the algorithm? Before or after classification? Do both algorithms need to say it has an illustration or at least one? William suggests we start showing this information now in BHL portal and not wait until everything goes through algorithm first or before it gets classified.

Purposeful Gaming –
93k – need clarity on what needs to get OCR’d by Mike. Start with seed lists and catalog.
Books, horiticultural catalogs, seed lists.

Joe is testing exporting from ALA. We need to do the same for FromThePage for the same pages.
RFP – Trish and William look over Jiri’s feedback together and try to get out by next week.
Mike testing mediaWiki for managing OCR. Supports Postgres (good). Manages changes in tables. Not sure how it will handle 43 million + pages. Doesn’t do – side by side versions of single page

Mining BioDiversity

BHL –
Author Display – trying to setup a meeting with BHL staff but not getting feedback we need right now to move forward.

OAI sets –
Our Idea was to keep the sets we have but remove the external records from them and create 2 new sets for external records: Items (external), Segments (External)
We don’t need to create an external Title set because you always end on the bibliography page within BHL for titles.
Trish check with If EBSCO if they are pulling from the Title set or only items and segments. we may have to rethink but otherwise go with this approach.
