2016.11.22 NDSR Minutes

Minutes

1. We have 4 selected and accepted residents! Yay! Great work everyone. Let’s bask.
2. Email to introduce all the candidates—I would like to send a welcome note once the Harvard letter is sorted out but may do it this week depending on my meeting tomorrow. It would be a nice pre-Thanksgiving event. I will include a welcome message, long versions of all the projects, date of the dc meeting with a note that travel is covered by the grant.

We need to sort out the DC trip: dates, hotels, logistics (Carolyn, can you help with this?). We need to keep to the per diem rates put out by the government:
http://www.gsa.gov/portal/category/100120 Looks like February is 182 per night for hotels. Additionally, all air travel must be economy and with a US carrier.

The residents should be added to the BHL private wiki, too, so they can explore and research all the documentation and history of BHL.

3. Digital Pres meeting. (Connie and Leora) (AIRbnb for DC??)
We spoke with Mary Alice Ball, Internship and Fellowship Programs, National and International Outreach and Karl-Rainier Blumenthal (internet Archive, former resident) about communities of practice and communication strategies. Leora and I attended a session that specifically covered residency programs. Former residents spoke about how important the communities of practice were, even more than the specific projects they felt that the communication process and the social learning were very valuable. The poster was well-received. We got one membership inquiry along with numerous expressions of interest in BHL as a tool and the plans for the residencies. This meeting would be a great place for the residents to present at next year as a group.
