Minutes July 19, 2016
Present: Christine, Carolyn, Leora, Richard, Joe, Trish, Connie, Martin(Doug on vacation)
We reviewed the job description, reorganized it, made corrections and clarifications.
Martin noted that we should plan to post the NDSR vacancy call on the BHL blog. Several others have posted suggested listservs. Richard will be attending SAA in August and would like to post it there.
August/September is the time for advertising and selecting candidates
Connie offered to set up a simple spreadsheet with job requirements and candidates so we can check off each applicants credentials
Trish asked if the applications will be filtered. Connie will get more information but thinks that the only filter will be a complete application (Cover letter, CV and reference list)
When Doug returns from vacation, he and Leora will complete the task of identifying consistent questions for the applicants.
Christine and Leora noted that it would be helpful to determine & list what our mentoring goals are (e.g. managing special & digital libraries) and to plan to talk with the candidates about what the job will look like on a day-to-day basis
Several institutions (Field, MOBOT, Smithsonian, LA) had questions about grant paperwork (submitted after the meeting to Kristin Pennarun at Harvard). Chicago Botanic seems to be all set. Connie will report when she gets the answers. Christine reminded us all to work on the lynda.com courses. Trish asked about call minutes. Connie noted that she did not get the minutes completed for the last meeting (or June as it turns out).
