- BHL Update (Martin Kalfatovic as reported by Bianca Crowley)
- Secretariat had good meeting with Rod Page at National Agriculture Library yesterday. Discussed topics related to article-zing BHL content, full text search, BHL version 2, DOIs, the future of BioStor, and name authority control.
- Rod Page (Professor, University of Glasgow and creator of BioStor that has contributed 100,000 articles to BHL; he a BHL power user and critical friend,(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roderic_D.M._Page) as part of a SciColl at the National Agriculture Library will give a talk at Smithsonian right now attended by Martin Kalfatovic and Carolyn Sheffield.
- Washington University will not renew as an Affiliate due to administrative changes at the library; Chris sends his regrets
- Planning for the BHL EC retreat (November in Washington). An Agenda is still being drafted.
- Secretariat continues to work with EABL (Expanding Access to Biodiversity Literature) on preparing introduction packs. EABL project so far has enabled 72 in-copyright titles to be added, 200,000 pages of content/ 2,000 volumes and growing.
- Discussions for content contribution by Otago and working with BHL-Australia on contributing. Southampton discussions continue. Pending affiliate status for Arboretum Library, Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden who may also be interested in moving to full membership. The National Library of Agriculture also potentially interested in moving to full membership. Bianca confirms hearing similar news from Pat Murphy and Kay Derr, NAL Librarians on BHL Staff
- Gemini update (updated field values to include "in progress" as an option; still some problems with email alerts, being worked on; report on Gemini stats). August 2016, 90% of issues received cleared. Over 1,800 issues still open and in progress.
- Technical Update (Martin Kalfatovic as reported by Bianca Crowley)
- Move update: continue to inch along with administrative hurdles getting closer to completion
- Mike L. continues to work on full text search; looking into requirements for servers. For more details, please see the notes on the Technical Team Meeting Wiki pages.
- GitHub. BHL has maintained it's codebase in GitHub for many years. Mike Lichtenberg has done an excellent job of keeping the repository up-to-date and documented. In the past week, we've moved the Macaw codebase to the BHL GitHub repository; this will keep all of our code in one convenient place.
- Gitter (like Github’s “twitter”) is a good place to be to discuss technical topics with EOL, GBIF, Global Names Architecture and others - BHL to see about getting involved here as per Rod Page’s recommendation.
- BHL Global Update (Connie Rinaldo). No report this month. Nancy reminded members about the forthcoming Annual Meeting in Singapore week of, 13-14 March 2017. Detail will be added on the BHL wiki home page ; planning meetings have started. Interest expressed in opportunities for virtual attendance.
- Meeting in Singapore a good opportunity to reach out to potential members from around the geographic area; there will be a BHL Day followed by a Members Council meeting and Election of officers - Nancy Gwinn to activate nominating committee after the first of the year; goal of meeting to set priorities for the coming year; Clara will not be able to attend
